This year, as the Kaleva Historical Society began preparing to open the museum for the summer, we discovered a major crack in the cement floor of the porch. Further inspection by a foundation contractor told us that the porch foundation was sinking on the east side. Fortunately, within 2 weeks, Superior Waterproofing and Restoration of Howard City was able to provide the foundation repair and Joel Asiala of Kaleva was able to fix the crack and put down a beautiful non-slip epoxy floor. The porch was then painted by the Sandel Brothers of Kaleva. Charles Ausmus restored the front door. Although the damage was a disappointment when we discovered it, the story has a great ending—we now have a bright, cheerful porch!
